WASHINGTON – May 4, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, issued the following statement after Republicans issued a subpoena to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for documents based on an unverified tip.
“Even before Republicans took control of the House, they vowed to use all Congressional Committees—in particular the Oversight Committee—to conduct politically-motivated, and ultimately hyper-partisan, investigations against President Biden in retribution for the impeachment of his predecessor. What we are clearly seeing now is Committee leadership making good on that promise.
"The decision to subpoena FBI documents based on a 3-year-old tip from an unknown informant, made without any notification to or briefing of Democratic members, seriously undermines the legitimacy of the Committee and what should be an unbiased, fully transparent process. If Chairman Comer has solid evidence worthy of this Committee’s time and resources, he should share it with the full Committee membership—otherwise, this move is nothing more than the same old song-and-dance House Republicans have been performing for years to distract the American people from kitchen table issues and provide cover for the former president's legal woes.”
