Washington, D.C. – During the first week of May, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, underscored his commitment to empower all Americans to adopt a healthier lifestyle. By introducing a resolution to commemorate the month of May as “Physical Fitness and Sports Month,” Veasey invited the nation to make healthy habits a priority.
“Engaging in physical activity is one of the most important things people of all ages can do to improve their health,” said Rep. Veasey. “That is exactly why I am introducing this resolution that will dedicate the month of May to health and fitness so that we can show that there are steps everyone can take to lead healthier lives.”
According to the Centers of Disease Control, too few Americans get the recommended amount of physical activity. Only about 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 6 high school students fully meet physical activity guidelines for aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities. Additionally, about 110,000 deaths could be prevented if US adults increased moderate-to-vigorous physical activity by even 10 minutes per day.
