On July 20, Representatives Marc Veasey (TX-33), Joaquin Castro (TX-20), and Colin Allred (TX-32) led a resolution highlighting the importance of protecting and bolstering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives at institutions of higher education. The resolution responds to recent Republican-led attacks on diversity efforts in higher education institutions in Texas and across the country. As of July 2023, 40 pieces of anti-DEI legislation in 22 states have been introduced, including in Texas where Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill into law that bans diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at public colleges across the state.

On June 29, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33), member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, announced that Texas would receive over $3.3 billion through the Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. This week, Representatives Marc Veasey (TX-33) and Jake Ellzey (TX-06) introduced the Creating Opportunity for Athletic Coaches to Help Educate Students (COACHES) Act to extend the educator Expense Tax Deduction to K-12 athletic coaches and administrators. This bipartisan bill will amend the tax code to allow K-12 coaches to be classified as "eligible educators" in order to be eligible for tax deductions for out-of-pocket expenses relating to instructional expenses.
