City to offer safety updates via text message for NCAA Men's Final Four visitors

Basketball fans and visitors to the NCAA Men's Final Four events, including the March Madness Music Fest and Fan Fest, presented by AT&T, Capital One and Coca-Cola, and Men’s Final Four Fan Fest presented by Capital One, can now sign up to receive safety messages related to the events.

By texting "mffsafety" to 888-777, the text subscribers opt-in to receive the messages, which are created in coordination with the Mayor's Office, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), Houston Police Department, Houston Fire Department, the NCAA and the Local Organizing Committee, part of the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority.

Fans can expect texts that inform on significant traffic and safety issues during the event, and will not receive messages after the events have concluded. The subscribers remain anonymous.

"This free service is a key addition to the robust messaging that fans will receive while attending NCAA events," said Thomas Munoz, Deputy Director for Houston OEM. "We hope that everyone has a fun time this weekend, and we stand ready to coordinate with event planners and first responders to ensure safety remains the top priority."

Additionally, fans can receive information about the events through Men's Final Four App presented by AT&T.
