City of Dallas Adds New Information Hub for Employees’ Retirement Fund and Dallas Police and Fire Pension System Funding Efforts
The City of Dallas, in its continuous effort to enhance transparency and communication regarding the Employees’ Retirement Fund (ERF) and the Dallas Police and Fire Pensions System (DPFP), announces a new, comprehensive information hub. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ad Hoc Committee on Pensions, is designed to keep Dallas residents, along with pension participants and beneficiaries, fully informed about efforts to address the funding needs of both pension systems.

January Celebrations and Holiday Closures
Dallas Park and Recreation administrative offices, maintenance facilities, and recreation centers will be closed Monday, January 1, 2024. Normal business operations resume Tuesday, January 2, 2024. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, administrative offices, maintenance facilities, and recreation centers will be closed Monday, January 15. Normal business operations resume Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Welcoming Interactive 2024 $5,000 Grant Opportunity
The City of Dallas is collaboratively hosting the Welcoming Interactive Conference that brings together network members, as well as partners and others from around the world to learn and discuss immigrant inclusion, economic development, civic engagement and much more. Welcoming America is offering $5,000 to a Dallas-area artist to lead an interactive art project that would be part of this conference.

As we start the New Year, we want to take a moment to thank you for everything you do and highlight the impact you have made in the last year. This past year has had its fair share of challenges for DAS. From navigating Canine Influenza (CIV), to being overcapacity, to the various IT outages, you have stuck with us through the ups and downs and been instrumental in helping us save lives. When the going gets tough, each and every one of you are taking action and doing something to help improve our community and the lives of homeless pets. We are so thankful to have such an amazing community of volunteers who are dedicated to helping us find positive outcomes and improve the quality of life for the pets in our care.

City of Dallas to offer free disaster preparedness classes in Spanish for residents
The City of Dallas Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program teaches community members how to prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters that affect the Dallas area. This is a free course that does not require identification but does require pre-registration.

Spanish Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training for Spanish – speaking residents to begin Jan. 13
The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is offering its quarterly Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course to all interested residents starting Jan. 13. The free classes are taught by trained staff, cover basic emergency response skills, and culminates with a realistic disaster scenario and volunteer “victims.”

Readout of Mayor Johnson’s final day of official visit to France
On Nov. 17, Mayor Johnson visited the Hôtel de Ville – Paris City Hall – to meet with city officials. His first scheduled meeting was with Arnaud Ngatcha, Deputy Mayor of the City of Paris in charge of Europe, international relations, and the French-speaking world.

Office of Homeless Solutions activates Temporary Inclement Weather Shelters in anticipation of inclement weather
The Office of Homeless Solutions (OHS) announced Thursday that OHS plans to activate Temporary Inclement Weather Shelter (TIWS) for Dec. 22 to 25 based on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric forecast, in accordance with Chapter 45 of the City Code.
