Rep. Marc Veasey, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas's 33rd District since 2013, has taken to social media to address concerns regarding colorectal cancer screening guidelines and their implications for healthcare access. His recent tweets highlight issues surrounding the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and its impact on public health policy.

On December 11, 2024, Rep. Veasey pointed out that the USPSTF had not updated its colorectal cancer screening guidelines since 2021. He mentioned a judicial ruling from June 5th that challenged the structure of the USPSTF and the Affordable Care Act's coverage mandate, which has temporarily halted its application in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. "The problem? USPSTF has not updated its colorectal cancer screening guidelines since 2021."

Despite these challenges, Rep. Veasey emphasized the continued importance of USPSTF's guidance in providing access to essential care. On the same day, he announced his collaboration with Representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman, Madeleine Dean, and Ann Wagner to urge the USPSTF to expedite reviews of innovative colorectal screening tests to enhance access to lifesaving procedures. "Despite this, USPSTF's guidance still directly impacts access to essential care."

In another tweet posted shortly after, Rep. Veasey directed followers to further information and a letter concerning this issue through an online link shared on his social media account. @RepBonnie @RepMMM @RepAnnWagner Read more and access the letter here: https://t.co/zYoU3abC0n
