Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, representing Texas' 30th district, recently shared her thoughts on significant political developments via social media. Her posts addressed both the leadership within the Congressional Black Caucus and concerns about representation in Texas' electoral districts.
On December 5, 2024, Congresswoman Crockett acknowledged the election of Rep. Yvette Clarke as a leader within the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). She expressed her support for Clarke's leadership in the upcoming 119th Congress, noting that this event coincides with what would have been the 100th birthday of Shirley Chisholm, a co-founder of the CBC. "Coming off the heels of what would have been the 100th birthday of cofounder of the @TheBlackCaucus and @dstinc1913 member Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, the CBC has elected our Soror, @RepYvetteClarke. I’m excited to support her every step of the way in the 119th Congress!"
Later that day, during an Oversight Democrats Hearing, Crockett questioned how Texas Republican leaders justified creating two new white-majority districts despite significant population growth among people of color. She highlighted this issue as a form of voter suppression by diminishing minority representation. "At today's @OversightDems Hearing, I asked the Census Director how Texas Republican leaders can get away with drawing two new white-majority districts in Texas when 95% of population growth came from people of color." She further emphasized her stance against erasing minority representation by stating: "Erasing minority representation is voter suppression."
In response to inquiries about evidence supporting her claims, Crockett assured her audience that she had documentation to back up her statements. "And to everyone asking for receipts, you know I've got them."
