DALLAS, TX – The City of Dallas is proud to announce the ribbon cutting ceremony for its transformative Smart50 Award Winning Red Cloud Smart Neighborhood Project. The Red Cloud Smart Neighborhood Project was designed to integrate cutting-edge technology to improve the quality of life for Red Cloud Drive residents while improving public safety, digital equity, and the environment.

The ribbon cutting ceremony took place at 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 7, 2023, at the corner of Bruton Road and Red Cloud Drive.  It was followed by a celebration at the Inspired Vision Compassion Center located at 2019 North Masters Drive. Distinguished guests, City officials and community leaders  gathered to commemorate the launch. Residents were treated to free ice cream and treats, kid-friendly activities as well as a virtual photobooth.  The event was co-sponsored by Ubicquia, the City’s technology partner for the Red Cloud project.

“We are excited to celebrate with Red Cloud residents. We will bring our digital navigators on-site to aid and educate folks on how to access the new public Wi-Fi,” District 5 Council Member  Jaime Resendez said.

Through a technology partnership with Ubicquia, Red Cloud residents will benefit from:

Smart Energy Management: The neighborhood will use advanced lighting controls to optimize energy usage, reduce waste, and promote renewable energy sources, leading to lower utility bills for residents.

Intelligent Transportation: Smart transportation systems will improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and provide convenient mobility options, promoting eco-friendly transportation methods such as electric vehicles and smart public transit.

Connected Infrastructure: The neighborhood will be equipped with a robust network of sensors and smart devices that enable real-time monitoring and management of utilities, waste management, and public services, ensuring efficient resource allocation and proactive maintenance.

High-Speed Internet: Over 190 residential homes of the Red Cloud Smart Neighborhood will have access to best effort high-speed internet connectivity, enhancing digital equity and access.

Public Safety: The initiative added 48 streetlights and air quality monitoring sensors, in addition to light controls and public Wi-Fi to improve overall safety throughout the neighborhood.
