For doctors Michael A. Ramos and his son Michael J. Ramos, a future in health care started at a young age.
“I’ve always wanted to be a physician since I was young,” explained Dr. Ramos (father). “It was part of my dream – seems like forever.”
The senior Ramos credits the influence of the healthcare provided to his ailing Grandmother as a steppingstone for a career in the medicine field. “I remember her being sick and spending a lot of time with her. From that time on I did what it took to become a doctor.”
Son Michael J. recollects on his childhood memories of his father: “I remember seeing my dad come home every day with his lab coat, and I remember tagging along with him to hospital or clinic. I would watch him out the window walk down the street with his lab coat in tow and carrying his doctor’s bag. Seeing how he helped people in the community impacted me greatly.”
Dr. Michael A. Ramos is a Pueblo native and has served our Pueblo community for over 30 years as a family practice physician and obstetrician. Dr. Ramos graduated from the University of Southern Colorado before attending the University of Colorado Health Science Center. He then completed his residency at Southern Colorado Family Medicine before beginning his private practice career. He continues to see patients at his clinic on 13th Street.
“I love Parkview, it’s like my second home,” added Michael A.

For the younger Dr. Ramos, returning to southern Colorado and starting a local practice in the community where he was born and raised was very important. “I wanted to come back to Pueblo and be part of the community,” said Michael J. “This is my home.”
Dr. Ramos now sees patients at his clinic in Pueblo West, where plans to focus on providing multi-generational care with an emphasis on optimizing the quality of life.
The most important piece of advice junior Dr. Ramos received from his father? “He taught me to ‘to look at the person behind the patient.’ Get to know them, their history and their family. it’s what makes us better doctors and ultimately builds up our community.”
