The new three floor facility is located just to the west of the main hospital building and features Parkview Health System’s radiation oncologist and his team on the first floor. Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers’ medical oncologists will provide medical oncology and hematology care and treatments on the second floor, and Parkview’s Breast Health Center will be located on the third floor. This new comprehensive cancer center gives patients the best of all worlds with care in one facility without having to maneuver through confusing, sprawling medical campuses. More importantly, all their doctors will work closely together ensuring the best possible treatment.
A total of 51 staff will be housed in the center, including physicians from all disciplines: radiation oncology, medical oncology, surgery and diagnostic imaging physicians. Other cancer specialists include technicians, nurse navigators, physical therapists, genetic counselors, nurses, nutritionists, and office staff.
Radiation technology and treatment will be housed on the first floor, with a Varian Edge Linear Accelerator, a CT Scanning Machine, and a High-Dose Radiation (HDR) Brachytherapy area. (The Varian Edge is a state-of-the-art linear accelerator which allows for the ability to localize and target tumors more accurately in a shorter treatment course, while minimizing the dose to normal structures.) The Edge is the first one of its kind in Southern Colorado.
“We understand that cancer treatments can be complex and finding a team you can trust is important to us,” said Parkview President and CEO Leslie Barnes. “Our community looks to Parkview to provide the most advanced and comprehensive care available. This new facility provides the best options for our patients and their families in one convenient location.”
”Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers was founded 30 years ago on the simple idea that people shouldn’t need to travel far for the best cancer care available. We are proud to partner with Parkview Health System to create the new comprehensive cancer center and provide the community with world-class cancer care close to home,” said Glenn Balasky, Executive Director, Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers.
“There are many ways to treat cancer today. We are extremely fortunate to have several treatment options that are leading to increased survival rates and better outcomes,” commented Dr. Suraj Singh, Parkview Director of Radiation Oncology. “Keeping track of all these options – and determining how to best apply them to individual patients – demands a more coordinated approach.”
“We look forward to working closely with radiation oncology and surgery in this new state-of-the-art facility. Our patients will greatly benefit from easy access to all cancer specialties,” added Dr. Travis Archuleta, Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers.
The new Parkview Comprehensive Center officially opened to patients on Monday, October 10, 2022.
