Sydney Blakeman, a sophomore outfielder from Katy, has joined the Texas Woman's University softball program for the 2022-23 academic year, head coach Gay McNutt announced Monday.
A former member of the softball team at UTSA, Blakeman saw action in and started eight games during her freshman campaign in 2021, going 1-for-3 in her Roadrunner debut against Kansas. She followed that up with a 2-for-2 game the following day against UT Arlington, smashing a double and drawing a walk. She was perfect 3-for-3 in the field, nothing two putouts against Texas State.
Blakeman split her playing career between Rapid City (S.D.) Stevens High School and Katy High School, earning Offensive MVP, first team all-state, first team all-tournament honors in the 2017-18 season in South Dakota. She was a second-team all-district pick at Katy High School, helping lead them to a state championship; and playing on a pair of Region 3 finalists.
