Last week, the Patriettes dance team competed at NDA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL and the Dance Team Union College Classic in Orlando, FL ending their official 2021-2022 season with a bang.
At NDA College Nationals, the team took home first place in the Division II Pom category for the second year in a row. Not only did they defend their previous national title, but they also beat their winning score from last year. "Getting to run into the ocean last year was an amazing experience, but getting to do it a second time with an even better score was the best part. Our goal is to get 1% better as dancers and individuals every day, and our achievements at this competition affirmed we are doing just that," said third-year Veteran, Breanne Jackson.
As if this back-to-back win wasn't enough, the Patriettes then went on to the DTU College Classic to compete amongst both DI & DII teams in the pom division taking home second place by a close 0.74 points. "To be this close to such an established DI program was the cherry on top of our competition season. The future for our program is incredibly bright," said Head Coach, Brittni Bean.
While at The College Classic, the Patriettes were the only DII team to get selected for the All-Division Pom Battle, which was a show off for all the top teams in who brought a pom routine including Arizona State University, Kansas State University, and Stephen F. Austin University. This was a team goal and such an honor to perform alongside so many highly esteemed dance teams.
Through it all the Patriettes kept their focus on the Lord and each other. "The pressure to win can be super intense and has the potential to obliterate the unity of any dance team. However, we as Patriettes went out there with a different goal in mind. Our main goal with any performance is to glorify the Lord with the gift of dance that He has given us. This gives us an unexplainable freedom on stage as we know that we can never fail if our one purpose is to exemplify the joy we have for our Heavenly Father," said Captain, Reagan Cook.
Now the Patriettes are looking forward to their activities back on University Hill such as supporting the DBU Baseball team, hosting recruitment clinics, and continuing to train for the next season. "It's always a joy to represent DBU in the competition environment- and we are eager to bring home some amazing hardware and banners to our DBU Family," said Assistant Coach, Mackenzie Lee.
