The Office of Community Care has awarded $1 million to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas in an effort to assist nonprofit organizations that are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United Way will then allocate the funds to Dallas-based nonprofits via a "competitive grants process." United Way will allocate $5,000 to $30,000 to these struggling agencies.

“The Office of Community Care is thrilled to partner with United Way of Metropolitan Dallas to provide support to Dallas nonprofits who have seen their revenues and operations impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Office of Community Care Director Jessica Galleshaw said. “For the nonprofit sector, times like these create increasing demand for their services, while often making it more difficult to generate revenues. These grants will help provide some relief to many of the organizations providing critical human and social services to ensure these non-profits can continue providing quality support to our communities.”

The allocated funds will go toward rent, overdue utilities, paying staff, etc.

“The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the daily lives of all Dallas residents, especially those who have no financial safety net,” said United Way’s Executive Director of Housing Stability and Senior Vice President of Community Impact Ashley Brundage said. “Our nonprofit sector has stepped up to serve in a tremendous way, but at risk to their budgets. United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is proud to partner with the City of Dallas to provide these much-needed operational resources to organizations that have been battling COVID on the ground in their neighborhoods.”
