On March 24, 2025, Rep. Veasey criticized Pete Hegseth's qualifications and performance. He stated that "Hegseth was unqualified from the beginning. He is putting our lives and the lives of our troops in danger with his amateur hour." Rep. Veasey called for Hegseth's dismissal by saying "He needs to be fired."
Continuing his critique on March 25, 2025, he posted a tweet referring to an individual as an "Unqualified DEI Hire."
