Young Talent Shines for Women's Track & Field at UTA Invitational

The DBU Women's Track Team launched their outdoor track season in the DFW Metroplex at the UTA Invitational.  For a season-opener, the Lady Patriots started on the right foot and will look to further improve at each upcoming meet.

It was a big day for Sophomore Emme O'Donnell, highlighting some of the best performances at the meet.  In her opening event, the 1500m, O'Donnell competed with her heat, ultimately taking a strong lead to secure the event victory with a new personal-best time of 4:36.99.  She wouldn't stop there, however, coming back to race the 800m.  She finished second overall with another personal best mark at 2:16.73, almost eclipsing the leader in the final 100m straightaway.

Not to be outdone was fellow Sophomore KayCee Keller, matching O'Donnell's two personal best marks with two of her own and her own event win.  Keller raced the 1500m as well, finishing second with a personal-best time of 4:43.29.  Then, she came back in the 3000m, blowing away the field with a convincing 10:11.63, her second personal record of the day.

O'Donnell and Keller were not the only distance ladies to set new career marks.  Jenna Howard placed third in the 1500m with a time of 4:43.56, followed by Megan Smith at 4:50.24.

Freshman Meggie Morris was a standout amongst the sprinters, running personal-best marks in both the 100m (12.70s) and 200m (26.15).  Joining in on setting new personal bests include Meadow Housman, improving in both the 100m hurdles (15.27s) and the 400m hurdles (1:05.96).  Abbey Bradshaw, in her first ever 400m hurdle race, set the DBU freshman record and is the current team leader in the event, running a 1:05.41.

The Lady Patriots are set to return to competition on Saturday, March 18, the tail end of DBU's Spring Break, at the UT Tyler Icebreaker Classic in Nacogdoches, TX.
