Former Dallas Stars forward Mike McPhee marked another birthday on July 14.
Maritime NHLers 4 Kids gave the native Nova Scotian a shout-out on social media to celebrate the special occasion.
“Happy Birthday Shout Out to River Bourgeois, Nova Scotia's own and co-founder Mike McPhee,” the group posted on Facebook. “For his efforts, Mike was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 1999.”
The second eldest of a brood of six, McPhee earned a civil engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
He also played for RPI scoring 57 goals and 61 assists for a total of 118 points in 88 games, which was good enough for the Montreal Canadiens to select him with the 124th overall in the 1980 entry draft, Maritime NHLers 4 Kids said.
McPhee won a Stanley Cup and earned an All-Star Game nod with the Canadiens.
He was then traded to the then-Minnesota North Stars in 1992.
His time in the Twin Cities was short as the team relocated to Dallas in 1992.
A recurring knee injury prompted McPhee to retire from the game, but he stayed in North Texas for a little while.
McPhee’s LinkedIn profile shows he obtained an MBA from University of Dallas.
He’s now a financial advisor.
