The City of Dallas has earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Municipal Equality Index, which is designed to determine the progress that cities have made toward increasing equality.
It also shows whether the city has implemented discriminatory practices, policies, and other local laws. The index contains 49 different metrics that aggregate to form the Equality Index. City services, law enforcement, government employees, and leadership are graded in this index with respect to LGBTQ+ equality and opportunities.
Dallas has been praised for its efforts to provide equality. These efforts include providing necessary services to LGBTQ youth, helping LGBTQ homeless people, and providing services to LGBTQ older adults.
This year was the ninth annual MEI evaluation and the sixth year in a row that Dallas has received a perfect score.
