City of Dallas Recognizes Digital Inclusion Week

DALLAS – Celebrate Digital Inclusion Week with the City of Dallas. 

Digital Inclusion Week is an annual week hosted by the National Digital Inclusion Alliance that highlights the digital inclusion movement and raises awareness of digital equity in communities throughout the country.  

During the week, which is Monday through Friday, Oct. 2 through 6, hundreds of organizations, advocates, and local/regional elected officials raise awareness for solutions addressing home internet access, devices, and digital skills training and support programs. 

Below is a list of events taking place in Dallas. 

Monday | Oct. 2  

Computer Help  

Martin Luther King, Jr. Library Branch – Computer Area 

10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.  

Event Details: 

One-on-one dedicated computer help with a staff member from the Dallas Public Library. Staff will help residents with computer skills, accessing social services, connectivity, job applications, creating a resume and more. For more information, link here.

Tuesday | Oct. 3 

Computer Help

10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 4.pm. 

Event Details:

Job Search Assistance and More 

J. Erik Jonsson Central Library – Study Room 8 (6th Floor) 

10 a.m. to Noon 

Event details:  

CARDBoard Project is here to help connect residents to job search assistance, housing resources, access to essentials and more. Stop by for a one-on-one session very Tuesday on the 6th floor and every Thursday on the first floor. This partnership is in collaboration with the CARDBoard Project and Downtown Dallas, Inc. Computer Basics 

Vickery Park Library Branch- Classroom 1 

10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 

Event details: 

Library staff is available to provide one-on-one instruction on topics like learning to type and using a mouse, “Getting Started on a Computer,” “Internet for Beginners” and “Email for Beginners.” The computer sessions are for one hour. (Em)powerment Pop-up  

Provided by CARDBoard Project / Dallas Innovation Alliance 

Prairie Creek Library Branch  

10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Event details: 

(Em)powerment Pop-ups are a new initiative created through a partnership between the CARDboard Project and Dallas Innovation Alliance. Both Dallas based non-profits focus on bridging the digital divide through the ‘three legs of the stool’ – access, affordability, and training – to make a more connected community. One on One with JP – Computer Assistance 

Prairie Creek Library Branch  

2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Event details:  JP helps with computer related basics for those who need individual help. For more information, link here.  

Girls Who Code 

Forest Green Library Branch – Karen Blumenthal Auditorium 

4 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

Event details:  

Learn to code and have fun doing it! Meet girls interested in computer science and work together on larger coding projects. Computers available to use. This program is appropriate for grades three through twelve. For more information, link here. 

Perot Tech Truck 

Hampton-Illinois Library Branch- Black Box Theater 

4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. 

Event details: 

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science will bring their Tech Truck to the library for our kids to engage in hands-on STEM activities after school. This program is free and open to all school-age kids. For more information, link here.

Event details:

Event details:  

Learn the ins-and-outs of the Kroger app. It puts convenience, savings, and rewards at your fingertips. No registration is required. 

Thursday | Oct. 5 

Digital Equity Art Contest  

Hosted by the Office of Arts & Culture and City Manager’s Office, winners of the Digital Equity Art Contest will be announced at noon at the J Erik Jonsson Central Library on the 6th floor. The artwork will be displayed for Digital Equity awareness.  For more information, link here.

Event details: 

No tech skills? No problem! Come to the library to get basic one-on-one computer help like how to use Microsoft Office programs, create a resume, or use our online library resources. Residents can also bring in their laptop, phone, or tablet for device-specific help. Appointments may be made in advance with the staff. For more information, link here.  

Library Out Loud: CodeStream 

Mountain Creek Library Branch– Auditorium 

3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. 

Event details:  Join CodeStream Studios for an interactive coding workshop! During this event, residents will get to play computer science games designed by library programmers. Each game will teach the foundation needed to become a pro! For more information, link here.
