• A new report finds that the market for sinus dilation devices is expected to grow by almost 3 billion dollars between 2021 and 2030.
• That figure represents a compound annual growth rate of 10.8% from 2022 to 2030.
• Sinus dilation devices are used in balloon sinuplasty, which is quick and comfortable when compared to older sinus surgeries.
A report published by Globe Newswire said that the market for sinus dilation devices -- which are used to treat chronic sinusitis via balloon sinuplasty -- is expected to grow from $1.9 billion in 2021 to $4.78 billion by 2030.
"When it comes to balloon sinuplasty, those who have recurrent infections, mild-to-moderate disease, are clearly going to do well with balloon sinuplasty," Dr. Monty Trimble of Dallas Breathe Free Sinus & Allergy Centers told Dallas City Wire. "There are patients for whom the balloon is very much a great tool to open up the sinuses. Sometimes there may be something that has to be irrigated out of the sinuses. That can also be done in the same setting. Sometimes people may have something that needs to be removed from the sinuses, but using balloon sinuplasty can also be a great tool to accomplish that as well, so we find that almost every patient who has a sinus or nasal issue can potentially be a good candidate for balloon sinuplasty."
Chronic sinusitis is a very common condition, and doctors are increasingly relying on balloon sinuplasty procedures to treat it due to its minimally invasive and highly effective nature. Procedures involving the use of a balloon to dilate the sinuses are safe and effective, presenting a great treatment option for patients who have struggled to manage their sinusitis with medication.
The report also predicted that medical companies such as Stryker will continue to put their efforts toward improving sinus dilation devices, which will ultimately generate more demand for them.
Mayo Clinic reported that chronic sinusitis is common in both adults and children, occurring when the sinus lining of a patient is inflamed for three months or longer. This inflammation can cause symptoms such as congestion, discharge, postnasal drainage, facial pain, facial pressure, headaches, earaches, sore throat and fatigue. Those who suffer from asthma or allergies are more likely to develop chronic sinusitis, and those who have been experiencing the aforementioned symptoms for more than 10 days are encouraged to visit a doctor.
According to Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, a balloon sinuplasty procedure typically takes only 10 to 15 minutes, and patients usually recover within one to two days. While most patients can resume their normal activities during that time, they may also experience some swelling for up to a week.
During the procedure, an ear, nose and throat (ENT) physician will insert a small balloon into the sinus and inflate it until the sinus reaches the optimal size. This process allows any blockages to drain from the sinus passages, which are then flushed with a saline solution to remove any lingering bacteria or mucus.
