Gritty Patriots Open LSC Play with Win over Midwestern State

THE RUNDOWN
DBU (5-3) extended its winning streak to four games with a gritty victory over Midwestern State (2-4) on Wednesday night in Dallas. Pierre Sanders was unable to convert a layup in the closing seconds of the game to force overtime.

Both offenses struggled to find the rim in the first half, shooting a combined 32% from the field. After a quick 12-4 start to the game, the Patriots took to the rebounding game to provide offensive output. They outhustled the Mustangs, a strong offensive rebounding team, for an extra five offensive boards and the same in second chance points in the half. Austin Garner came alive for DBU, registering 13 points on 5-7 shooting and 5 rebounds.

To match the Patriots' start to the game, MSU closed the 11-point gap in a hurry. At the 9:21 mark, Jordan Teal hit a jump shot to tie the game at 47. The rest of the game was tightly contested, but the Mustangs were prohibited from doing more than tie the score. Jalen White snagged eight important rebounds in the second half to guide DBU to another tense win.

BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE PATRIOTS' GRIT
"I thought it was really good, especially in the first half. We were making winning plays. We were scrambling. We were hustling. We were getting on the floor. We didn't match it as well as we needed to the second half, and I'd like to see that be better in the future."

UP NEXT
The Patriots stay at home for their next game. They will play host to LSC member Cameron on Saturday at 2:00 pm in The Burg.
