THE RUNDOWN
A raucous crowd pushed DBU Basketball (2-3) to a convincing win against Newman (2-2), 84-53. The Patriots had their most efficient offensive performance of the young season, shooting better than 50% from both two- and three-point territory.
DBU wasted no time to get in front of the Jets. A little over eight minutes into the game, Ricky Lujan converted a layup off a Micaiah Abii steal to give the Patriots their first double-digit lead of the game. From that moment on, Newman failed to narrow the margin to nine or less. Five Patriots registered at least 5 points in the half, and DBU took a 19-point advantage into the locker room.
The second half was much like its forerunner. The Patriots kept in step with their generous offensive attack, as five Patriots once again garnered a handful of points in the period. Defensively, DBU bettered a 33% opponent field goal percentage in the first half to 29% in the second, prohibiting the Jets from ever finding a rhythm and holding star guard Stevie Strong to 20 points on the night.
