Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer senior Mahir Bingoel has been named the 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Men's Soccer Summit Award winner, announced by league officials.
Bingoel becomes the first CSU Pueblo men's soccer player to receive the award since 2015 when TJ Thiebaut received the award.
Colorado School of Mines' Katie Koehler is the 2022 RMAC Women's Summit Award winner.
The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA), participating at the finals sites for each of the RMAC championships.
All GPAs are based on a straight grading scale to ensure consistency among institutions. Any tie is broken by the number of credits completed.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above, who participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and competing at the championship. Graduate students are not eligible.
Bingoel is a senior who has a 4.000 GPA, majoring in Business Management.
The Hanover, Germany, native has helped the ThunderWolves to one of the most prolific seasons in program history as they enter the title game ranked No. 9 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. Bingoel has 12 appearances and five starts in the 2022 campaign and helps the ThunderWolves' defense limit opponents to a .117 shooting percentage.
No. 9 and 2-seed CSU Pueblo plays in the RMAC Tournament Final Friday against No. 14 and top seeded Colorado School of Mines at 6 p.m. at Stermole Stadium in Golden.
