Dallas Fire Rescue encourages safety during Fire Prevention Week

Annually, the week of October 9th is recognized as Fire Prevention Week; and while firefighters assume the forefront for the other 51 weeks or the year, this is the time during which the men and women of Fire Prevention take center stage to show how preventing fires is just as, if not more, important than putting them out.

October 9 – 15, Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) Fire Inspectors, in accordance with this year’s National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) theme, will be out in the communities educating them on the reality that “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape”, while reinforcing the importance of planning and practicing an escape plan. Fire Prevention Officers will use a variety of departmental resources to reiterate everything from making sure you have more than one escape route from every room in your home, to establishing a meeting point once outside (and never going back in) to insuring you have properly working and properly installed smoke alarms in your home.

For more information on Fire Prevention Week, please visit the NFPA’s website, at Fire Prevention Week (FPW) (nfpa.org).

For more information on the educational programs available through DFR’s Fire Education Division, in addition to other useful fire safety tips, please visit Dallas Fire Rescue educational-programs (dallascityhall.com). And remember, if you are a homeowner, live in the City of Dallas and are in need of a smoke alarm(s), you can contact our smoke alarm install team at (214) 670-7016, or dfd-smokedetector@dallas.gov, to schedule a time to have them installed.
