DBU Baseball's Chandler Arnold was selected in the 13th round of Tuesday's Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. Arnold, a third-year sophomore right-handed pitcher from Mesquite, Texas, was the 397th overall pick in this year's MLB Draft.
Arnold garnered First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in 2022 after playing multiple roles on the DBU pitching staff. The Patriots' righty began the season as the No. 2 starter in the weekend rotation before taking over as the team's closer and eventually returning to the rotation at season's end. Arnold tied for the lead in the Missouri Valley Conference in saves with eight, a mark that ranks as the seventh-most in a single-season in DBU's Division I era. In 47.2 innings of work, Arnold recorded 57 strikeouts while issuing just 22 walks.
Arnold joins fellow right-hander Jacob Meador, a 12th round selection of the Los Angeles Dodgers, as the second player from DBU to have their name called in this year's MLB Draft. He also becomes the 64th Patriot to be selected in the MLB Draft during Dan Heefner's 15 seasons as head coach of the DBU Baseball team.
