The Warm-Up Show on the PBN begins 30 minutes prior to first pitch, as studio host Jason Lippert breaks down DBU's matchups versus the Bearkats. Patriot fans can also listen to interviews with DBU coaches and players leading up to game time.
PATRIOT STORYLINES
- DBU enters the weekend 1-4 on the season after a hard fought loss to No. 20 Texas Tech on Tuesday.
- George Specht hit his first home run on the season with a three-run shot to right field against the Red Raiders.
- Miguel Santos delivered his seventh hit of the season on Tuesday, moving him into sole possession of the team lead. He also carries a four-game hit streak into Friday.
- Blayne Jones has started 181 games in his DBU career, which currently sits at eighth all-time in DBU history. Jones has also played in 188 games, placing him just two games back from jumping to the eighth spot as well.
- The Patriots' eight home runs are sixth-most in the nation and their 13th in the nation in stolen bases with 11.
- Luke Eldred reached the 100 strikeout mark for his career on Opening Day.
- Peyton Sherlin currently sits at 70 appearances for his career, placing him seventh all-time at DBU and just three appearances away from moving into sixth place.
- Chandler Arnold is coming off of a start last Saturday in which he matched a career-high in strikeouts (9).
- Jace Grady currently leads the team in extra base hits with four on the season including three doubles and a home run.
- Cole Moore leads the team in both home runs (3) and RBI (7).
SCOUTING SAM HOUSTON
- Sam Houston is coming off of a 6-3 upset win in extra innings over No. 4 Oklahoma State.
- The Bearkats enter the game with a 4-1 record after taking three-of-four from Nebraska to open the season and a win over Oklahoma State.
- Sam Houston currently has the seventh-most doubles in the Western Athletic Conference with 13 two-baggers.
- Sam Houston is looking to replace Colton Cowser, who was drafted fifth overall in the MLB draft to Baltimore. Cowser led the team with a .374 average, 76 hits and 16 home runs in 2021.
- The Kats also lost Jack Rogers to the draft, who was selected in the 9th round to Cincinnati. Rogers hit .367 with 16 homers, 55 RBI and 18 doubles.
- Justin Wishkoski currently leads the Bearkats with a .444 average in their first five games.
- Sam Houston currently has six players batting above .300 on the season.
- Trent Touchet has the only home run for Sam Houston so far through the first week of the season.
- Sam Houston finished fifth in the Southland Conference last season and are in their first year in the WAC.
SERIES HISTORY
In a series that dates back to 1970, Sam Houston holds a 27-17 edge over DBU. The Patriots and Bearkats are an even 12-12 when competing against each other since 2004. The last time these two teams met was back in 2018 when DBU took two-of-three from Sam Houston and handed the Bearkats a 21-3 defeat in the deciding game. DBU and Sam Houston are meeting in Dallas for the first time since 2013.
ON DECK
The Patriots face Texas Tech in a midweek rematch on Tuesday, March 1 when the Red Raiders travel to Horner Ballpark to complete the season series between the two non-conference teams.
