The Dallas County Commissioners voted unanimously this week to limit Judge Clay Jenkins' powers during the COVID-19 pandemic, NBC5 reported.
The news agency reported that Jenkins has been providing near-daily updates on the virus and making major decisions for the county using executive powers. Jenkins must now come to the commissioners before any restrictions are placed on essential businesses, and he must give them enough time to assemble a meeting.
Jenkins will also be required to get a majority vote from the county commissioners before he extends the county's shelter-in-place order beyond April 30, according to the news agency.
Also discussed at the meeting was the need to revamp the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center into a temporary COVID-19 hospital, the cost of which would likely be in the millions, according to the news agency.
The news agency reported that the convention center could accommodate 250 beds, but would have the capability to expand that to 1,400.
