The South Dallas Cultural Center announced on June 3 a series of summer programs, performances, and exhibitions at its location at 3400 S. Fitzhugh Ave., Dallas, TX 75210. The center will operate Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the summer.
June programming includes Summer Camps for young artists, the Sunny South Music Fest, and the Echoes of Black Sound exhibition. The newsletter encourages early RSVPs due to high demand for summer offerings.
On Saturday, June 6, the center will host ‘Diaspora in Rhythm,’ featuring artist talks such as ‘No Walls Between Us,’ moderated by Marion Marshall with artists Ebony Lewis, Andrea Tosten, and Reuben Cheatem. Attendees can also experience live performances by The Big Easy Brass Band, African Village Drummers, Bryan Peters – Afro Xperience; participate in a traditional Eritrean coffee ceremony with complimentary Eritrean food; join Jollof Pilates; and see demonstrations by Dallas Malandros Capoeira.
Other events include multiple workshops like Jubilee Crafts and Stitched Stories scheduled throughout July; SDCC Songwriting Camp with Kandon Phillips from June 10-13 open to all ages; and That’s Sew Creative Juneteenth Series on several dates in June. Additional highlights are Girls Rock Music Camp from July 27 to August 1 and the Homecoming Dallas Arts Experience on July 11.
Exhibitions currently running at the center include The Hall Monitor Series through July 1 and Indibano Art Residency through June 27. The Echoes of Black Sound exhibition runs until June 27 as well.
Volunteer opportunities are available for upcoming events such as the Sunny South Music Fest on Saturday, June 27 from noon to 8 p.m., followed by SDCC MusicLounge featuring BEMYFIASCO that evening. Soul Rep Theatre’s SHINE New Play Festival is set for June dates starting at 5 p.m.
