The South Dallas Cultural Center announced on May 7 a schedule of community events set for May 9 at its location on South Fitzhugh Avenue in Dallas.
The event aims to bring together local residents for a day of creativity, cultural celebration, and community engagement. The center will host activities ranging from youth art workshops to music performances and literary tours.
The day’s programming begins with The Smart Project’s free youth workshop, Paint by Value, running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees can also visit the closing reception for the Everyday Black Life group exhibition between noon and 2 p.m. In addition, the Sunny South Dallas Food Park will operate from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., featuring local food vendors and cultural experiences. Around the Block will lead a literary tour spotlighting Black Dallas from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
In the evening, SDCC MusicLounge will feature live performances by ZYAH, Scuttino, Saucy D, and Maria Demus from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., offering what organizers describe as “the perfect nightcap to a vibrant Saturday on the South Side.” Questions about any of these events can be directed to sdccinfo@dallas.gov.
