The Southern Methodist University (SMU) women’s tennis team is set to close its regular season with home matches against No. 23 California on Friday, April 10, and No. 47 Stanford on Sunday, April 12, at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas.
These matches mark the end of SMU’s first season under Head Coach Kelcy McKenna. The Mustangs currently hold a four-match winning streak, their second-longest this year. SMU sits eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings but could move up as high as sixth—and secure a bye in the upcoming ACC Tournament—if they win both weekend contests.
In their most recent outings, SMU swept both San Diego State and South Florida, winning all doubles points and several key singles matches. Sophomore Llewellyn leads the team with a combined 24 dual match wins across doubles and singles this season.
The Mustangs have also received recognition for individual performances throughout the year. The team has earned six ACC weekly honors in 2026, including two Freshman of the Week awards and one Player of the Week award for Van Impe. On March 10, SMU swept all three ACC Weekly honors: Doubles Team of the Week, Player of the Week, and Freshman of the Week.
Freshman Van Impe made national headlines by defeating North Carolina’s top-ranked player Reese Brantmeier earlier this spring. This victory propelled her into ITA’s top-50 singles rankings; she now holds a combined record of 23-5 on court one singles and doubles since joining midseason.
Head Coach Kelcy McKenna joined SMU after leading Wisconsin through a dramatic turnaround that included multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and national rankings during her tenure from 2017 onward.
As SMU prepares for these crucial conference matchups against California (10-6 overall) and Stanford (11-8), both teams bring nationally ranked players to Dallas with postseason implications at stake.
