The SMU women’s tennis team lost 4-3 to Stanford in the third round of the ACC Championships on April 16 in Cary, North Carolina. The defeat leaves SMU with a season record of 15-7 during its first year under a new head coach, while Stanford advances to face Virginia in the quarterfinals.

This match was closely contested, with both teams trading wins throughout. The Mustangs secured the doubles point by winning matches on courts two and three. The pairings achieved convincing 6-1 victories over their Stanford opponents, including an avenged loss from earlier in the season.

In singles play, Stanford quickly evened the score with a win on court three. However, SMU responded as one player defeated Sein Myoung of Stanford and another ranked No. 27 nationally overcame No. 25 Monika Ekstrand to give SMU a temporary lead at 3-2. Despite this advantage, Stanford rallied with wins on courts four and six before clinching the overall victory with a third-set win on court two.

The result means that SMU will now await its postseason fate as attention turns toward NCAA tournament selection. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, April 27 at 4 p.m. Central Time, followed by tournament play beginning May 1.
