SMU Women’s Tennis defeated No. 47 Stanford with a score of 4-1 on April 12 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas, concluding their regular season.

The match marked the end of SMU’s second season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, where they improved to a 7-5 conference record after finishing last year at 4-8. The Mustangs’ overall record now stands at 15-6.

In doubles play, SMU secured its seventeenth doubles point of the season by winning on courts one and three. On court three, an SMU pair came back to win against Stanford’s Sein Myoung and Morgan Shaffer, finishing with a score of 7-5. The No. 21-ranked duo clinched the doubles point for SMU with a close tiebreak victory over Stanford’s top pair.

Stanford won on court two in doubles after outlasting SMU in another tiebreak match. In singles action, following a default that gave Stanford its only point, SMU’s No. 59 player earned her second consecutive ranked win by defeating No. 32 Monika Ekstrand with scores of 6-4 and 7-6(3). Another Mustang extended her personal winning streak to seven matches by beating Tianmei Wang on court four; it was also her first match and win on that court this season.

Freshman Mireles clinched the overall team victory for SMU—the first such achievement of her career—by defeating Sein Myoung in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3). Two other singles matches were unfinished but had Mustangs leading in both third sets when play concluded.

Looking ahead, SMU will await seeding for the upcoming ACC Tournament scheduled from April 14 to April 19 in Cary, North Carolina.
