SMU women’s tennis defeats Louisville 4-0 in road match

SMU Women’s Tennis defeated the Louisville Cardinals 4-0 on Mar. 20, marking their sixth true road victory of the season and improving their away record to 6-2. The Mustangs now hold a 5-4 record in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

The win is significant as it continues SMU’s strong performance on the road and within conference matches. The team has now recorded four shutouts this season, including two against ACC opponents.

SMU secured its 14th doubles point of the spring by winning all three doubles matches. On court three, SMU won 6-1, followed by a clinching victory on court two with a score of 6-3. The No. 10-ranked pair also contributed with a win on court one, finishing 6-4. Van Impe and McGinley improved their doubles record to 12-1 for the season.

In singles play, SMU extended its lead when one player achieved a dominant 6-0, 6-0 result on court six for her second consecutive win. On court one, No. 63-ranked SMU player overcame her opponent with scores of 7-5 and 6-4 after coming back from a deficit in the second set. No. 61 clinched the overall match for SMU with a hard-fought victory on court two (7-6(5), 6-3), earning her tenth dual match win and twentieth overall for the season.

The Mustangs will continue their road trip by facing Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, on Sunday at 12:30 pm Central Time.
