SMU Women’s Tennis achieved its third consecutive victory with a 4-0 win against San Diego State on March 26, handing the Aztecs only their second loss of the season. The match concluded a three-game road stretch for SMU.
The Mustangs now hold an overall record of 13-5 and finished regular season play with an 8-2 mark in true road matches this spring. This victory represents SMU’s highest ranked win so far this season.
In doubles, SMU won on courts one and three. Stasny and Llewellyn earned a 6-4 win over Gloria Alog and Lissa Varul of San Diego State, improving to an 11-4 record together in the spring. The No. 10-ranked pair from SMU also collected their sixth ranked win by defeating San Diego State’s No. 50-ranked duo Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley, also by a score of 6-4. Overall, the Mustangs have secured the doubles point in fifteen out of eighteen matches this season.
During singles play, SMU’s No. 61-ranked player delivered the team’s first singles victory with a straight-set win over Gloria Alog (6-3, 6-1), marking her eleventh singles dual match win this year. Freshman Comiskey continued her strong performance after moving up to court five, winning against Teja Tirunelveli (6-3, 6-4) for her tenth victory this spring—tied for second-most on the team—and extending her winning streak to four decisions. The clinching point came from SMU’s No. 63-ranked player who defeated Jo-Yee Chan (7-5, 6-1) on court one; she improved to a record of nine wins and three losses in her freshman campaign and has won her last three singles appearances.
Looking ahead, the Mustangs will return home for a three-match homestand to finish out the regular season beginning Sunday against South Florida at Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas.
