SMU women’s golf finished in a tie for 12th place at the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., according to a May 25 announcement. The Mustangs concluded their season after advancing past the three-day cut and competing in the final round.
The team entered the last day tied for 13th and needed to finish within the top eight to advance to match play on Tuesday. They shot 13-over par in the fourth round, moving up one spot into a tie for 12th place. Over the first three days, SMU posted a combined score of 10-over par to make it through the initial cut among fifteen teams.
This marks SMU’s second time finishing inside the top thirteen of the NCAA Championship over four years and their third appearance at college golf’s top tournament during that span. The five primary Mustangs each recorded a season ranked among SMU’s all-time best sixteen performances. The team also won a regional title earlier this year and finished in the top four at nine tournaments, including five runner-up placements.
Individual performances included one freshman leading with a four-over total across four days, highlighted by an opening round of 71 and an even-par third round of 72, finishing tied for thirty-fourth overall with a season scoring average of 73.41—third best by an SMU freshman. Another player finished one shot back at five-over, tying for fortieth place after carding her best round—a final-round score of 71—and completing her season with a scoring average of 73.00.
Two other players shared team leadership with season averages of 71.84 strokes per round; one ended her senior year as SMU’s all-time leader (71.54) while holding thirteen school records, finishing forty-sixth overall at seven-over par after shooting seventy-eight on Monday. Another senior wrapped up her career with an average of 72.22—second-best by any Mustang—and placed sixty-eighth after shooting sixty-eight in her final collegiate round.
