SMU women’s golf team held a share of second place after two rounds at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship on April 16.

The team’s strong performance puts them in a favorable position as they seek to advance to the match play portion of the championship. A top-six finish after round three is required for teams to progress, while finishing in the top two grants a bye into the semifinals.

“I’m really proud of the way our team competed today,” said fifth-year head coach Lauren Mason. “They showed great composure and resilience, especially when the conditions got challenging during our second 18. To put ourselves in second place heading into the final round of stroke play says a lot about this team’s belief and preparation.” Mason added, “We’ve given ourselves a great opportunity, but we know the job isn’t finished. Tomorrow is about staying patient, trusting each other, and embracing the moment.”

After shooting 13-under par in round one, SMU was alone in third place behind nationally ranked Stanford and Duke. In round two, SMU shot one under par to tie with Duke for second place at -12 overall, trailing only Stanford at -23. The Mustangs are ahead of twelve other teams including eight that are nationally ranked.

Individual performances were led by Jin and Chen who both sit tied for sixth after consistent rounds featuring multiple birdies and low scores. Lee holds ninth place following rounds that lowered her career scoring average to a program record of 71.54 as she aims for her 25th career top-10 finish on Friday.

Looking ahead to Friday’s final round of stroke play, SMU will aim to maintain their position within the top two spots to secure advancement directly into Saturday’s semifinals.
