SMU women’s golf advanced to the match play semifinals of the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship after finishing second in the stroke play portion of the tournament, according to an April 17 announcement.

This result secures SMU a direct spot in the semifinals and a bye for the next round, putting them in a strong position as they continue their run for the championship title. The team’s performance was highlighted by shooting 10-under par, tying Stanford and Wake Forest for the lowest round on the course. With this score, SMU surpassed Duke and finished ahead of nine nationally ranked teams, trailing only Stanford.

“Really proud of the work this group has done to put us in this position,” said head coach Lauren Mason. “Today we tied for the low round of the day, which says a lot about the focus and competitiveness of this team. As a coaching staff, we’ve believed in this group all along not just because of their talent, but because of how they show up for each other as teammates when no one is watching!”

Mason also said: “Earning the No. 2 seed and the bye tomorrow morning is a great opportunity, and we’re excited to compete for a spot in the championship. I feel very confident in the depth of our lineup, especially because this group has a lot of match play experience.” She concluded: “We’re looking forward to the challenge and excited to see what opportunities tomorrow afternoon brings.”

Individually, SMU players posted several strong performances during stroke play. One golfer shot five-under par on her final round to move into fourth place overall with an eight-under total across three rounds; she achieved her 25th career top-10 finish while recording her 500th career birdie. Another Mustang carded three rounds at par or better—finishing tied for eighth—while others placed within or near top-20 positions.

Next up for SMU is a semifinal matchup against either Wake Forest or North Carolina on Saturday afternoon with a spot in Sunday’s finals at stake.
