SMU announced on April 29 that it will host the SMU Invitational at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium in Dallas, Texas, on May 1 and 2. The event will feature eighteen teams competing in a variety of track and field events over two days.
The SMU Invitational returned last season after a hiatus of twenty-seven years, and this year marks its continuation as an opportunity for athletes to compete ahead of the championship portion of the season. The meet is scheduled to begin with field events at 4 p.m. on Friday, followed by running events starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday’s schedule resumes with field events at 8:30 a.m., running events beginning at noon, and recognition of Mustang seniors set for 4 p.m.
A new addition to this year’s meet is the Wavelight pacing system, which will be used in most races from the 800 meters upward. Head Coach A’Havahla Haynes said, “We are excited to introduce our new Wavelight System — it is a game changer for how our athletes train and compete. It gives real time, visual pacing that takes the guess work out of effort and helps build workout consistency and pace awareness. It turns preparation into precision.”
The SMU Invitational serves as the final regular season competition before athletes move into championship meets starting with the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in mid-May.
Admission to the meet is free for all attendees.
