SMU rowing will participate in its second meet of the season at the Orlando Invite, hosted by the University of Central Florida, starting April 17. The event will take place at Lake Pickett in Orlando, with races beginning for SMU on Friday morning at 7 a.m. Central Time.
The Orlando Invite brings together several ranked teams including No. 11 UCF, No. 13 Alabama, No. 14 Duke, No. 15 Miami, No. 19 Penn, and No. 24 Oklahoma, along with Clemson and SMU.
Friday’s schedule includes five events for SMU: the third varsity eight (3v8) at 7:00 a.m., first varsity eight (1v8) at 7:40 a.m., second varsity eight (2v8) at 8:20 a.m., first varsity four (1v4) at 9:00 a.m., and second varsity four (2v4) at 9:40 a.m.
In their previous outing at the Sarasota 2K meet, SMU secured two first-place finishes in both the first and second varsity eights on Friday and qualified for A finals in four out of five boats. The team competed against schools such as Boston College, Drexel, High Point, Tulsa, Miami, Dartmouth and Jacksonville during that event.
Additionally this week it was announced that Dooley was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Preseason Watch List for rowing in advance of this season; each program nominates one student-athlete for this list.
Looking ahead after Orlando Invite competition wraps up Saturday morning, SMU will travel next week to Raleigh for the Lake Wheeler Invitational hosted by Duke from April 23-25.
