SMU rowing concluded its participation at the Orlando Invite, competing in one “A” final on Saturday, April 18.
The event is significant for the team as it provided an opportunity to race against strong competition and measure their progress during the season.
SMU qualified for the “A” final in the third varsity eight (3v8) after securing second place on Friday. In Saturday’s final, they finished fifth, just 2.7 seconds behind Miami. The Mustangs also competed in other finals: in the second varsity four (2v4), they finished behind Clemson and Oklahoma with a time of 8:04.1; in the first varsity four (1v4), SMU took second place ahead of Clemson by nearly three seconds but trailed Oklahoma.
In additional races, SMU’s second varsity eight (2v8) secured a second-place finish with a time of 6:53.9, beating Oklahoma by almost five seconds. The team’s last race was the first varsity eight (1v8), where they placed third with a time of 6:45.1.
During day one of competition, SMU posted fourth-place finishes in both the first varsity eight and second varsity eight races and achieved a notable second place in the third varsity eight event.
Looking ahead, SMU will compete next at the Lake Wheeler Invitational from April 23 to April 25 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
