SMU rowing took part in the Sarasota 2K at Nathan Benderson Park, competing in four “A” final races on Saturday, Mar. 28.
The event saw SMU’s teams racing against schools from across the country, with the Mustangs securing a win in the 2v4 “B” final. The team finished with a time of 7:41.54, more than four seconds ahead of Drexel and also beating Jacksonville, MSU, Tulsa and West Virginia.
In other results from Saturday’s competition, SMU placed fifth in the 3v8 “A” final with a time of 7:22.06, finishing ahead of Kansas. The Mustangs also competed in the V4 “A” final and came sixth with a time of 7:58.24. In the competitive field for the 2v8 “A” final, SMU finished sixth as well with a time of 7:23.01.
The team’s last race was in the top-tiered 1v8 “A” final where they secured fifth place (6:53.39), crossing ahead of Iowa.
Friday’s earlier heats saw SMU finish third or better in several events including first place finishes for both their varsity eight (1V8) and second varsity eight (2V8) crews.
Looking ahead, SMU will return to Florida for its next competition at the UCF Invite in Orlando scheduled for April 17-18.
