The SMU Mustangs track and field team competed at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational over the weekend, where a standout performance resulted in a new school record. One Mustang athlete ran the 400-meter hurdles in 57.27 seconds, winning the event and lowering her own school record, according to an April 11 announcement from SMU.
This achievement highlights ongoing progress for the team as they continue their outdoor season. Personal bests were also recorded by other athletes during both days of competition.
On day one, Mustang runners posted times of 24.21 seconds, 24.32 seconds, and 24.55 seconds in the women’s 200 meters. In field events on day two, Preston achieved personal bests with throws of 26.19 meters in javelin and 8.97 meters in shot put.
Other notable performances included a time of 13.61 seconds in the women’s 100-meter hurdles and a finish of 11.78 seconds in the women’s 100 meters sprint event. In addition, another runner completed the women’s open-400 meter race with a time of 55.77 seconds.
Looking ahead, SMU Mustangs are scheduled to participate next at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa from April 16 to April 18.
