SMU men’s golf advanced into 10th place out of 30 teams during the second round of The Goodwin tournament at Stanford Golf Course, according to a March 27 update from the team.
The Mustangs competed in a strong field that included 14 teams ranked in the top 50. After shooting five under par in the first round and starting the day tied for fourth, SMU posted a six-over score in round two, moving them into tenth position. Brigham Young University and UCLA are currently tied for the team lead at twelve under par, with four teams within one stroke of first place.
One Mustang golfer led his squad for the fourth consecutive round across two tournaments by posting an even-par performance that placed him in a tie for thirteenth overall. He recorded three straight birdies between holes five and seven. His season scoring average has dropped to 70.16, which is now second best at SMU behind Noah Goodwin’s mark set during the 2020-21 season.
Another Mustang shot a one-over-par score of seventy-one, moving him into twenty-eighth place and keeping him even par for the tournament. A third teammate stands one shot back in thirty-ninth after carding a three-over seventy-three on Friday. Other scores include rounds of seventy-two and seventy-four by remaining SMU golfers, placing them sixtieth and one hundred nineteenth respectively.
The Mustangs will finish play at The Goodwin on Saturday morning with tee times beginning at 9:05 am Central Time alongside competitors from California, Oregon, and Utah.
