SMU men’s golf moved up to sixth place during the final round of The Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course, according to a March 28 announcement from the team.
The tournament saw SMU start the day in tenth place after posting rounds of five-under and six-over par. By shooting one-under on the final day, the Mustangs finished even par for the tournament. They placed behind five teams ranked in the top 35 and ahead of eight teams ranked in the top 50.
One Mustang golfer led his team throughout The Goodwin, finishing seven-under across three rounds. He ended with a four-under 66 on the last day, tying for third overall after moving up ten spots during that round. His performance included an eagle on the par-five sixteenth hole. His season scoring average is now at an even 70.00, which ties for best ever by a Mustang golfer, while his career average stands at 71.26—third best in program history.
Another SMU player shot even par in his final round and finished tied for twenty-ninth with scores of 69, 71, and 70 over three days. A third Mustang ended tied for fifty-ninth after carding a final-round score of seventy-one; he was three under through his first seven holes that day.
Two more SMU golfers finished seventy-eighth and tied for one hundred seventh respectively; both improved their standings on the last day with solid performances including another eagle on hole sixteen.
The next event for SMU will be the ACC Championship scheduled from April 23 to April 27 in Panama City, Florida.
