SMU men’s golf will compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship beginning April 23 at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Lake Powell, Florida. The tournament features a strong field of 15 teams, including five ranked among the top 25 nationally.
The event is significant as it brings together some of the leading collegiate programs such as Boston College, Cal, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, SMU, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. With thirteen teams ranked in the top 100 nationwide participating this year, competition is expected to be high.
Recently SMU finished third at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial tournament. Senior Will Sides won his third tournament title of the season there with rounds of 67, 66 and 64. Sides now holds a season scoring average of 69.55—surpassing Noah Goodwin’s previous Mustang record from the 2020-21 season—and stands one win short of Colt Knost’s single-season victory mark set in 2005-06.
Sides also captured individual titles earlier this year at both the Pauma Valley Invitational and Jones Cup and repeated as Stephens Cup champion last fall. Two Mustangs are currently ranked among the top players in PGA Tour University rankings: one at No.11 and another at No.30; SMU is one of only six programs with multiple players in that category for two consecutive years.
Looking back on last season (2024-25), SMU golfers claimed multiple team and individual honors—including victories by Kingsland at Hal Williams and strong performances during summer amateur championships such as U.S Amateur Championship match play appearances.
With several players setting or nearing program records for scoring averages and par-or-better rounds this year—and having advanced to NCAA regional play last spring—the Mustangs enter this ACC Championship aiming to build on recent successes.
