SMU Mustangs golfers Sides and Steinmann are set to compete at the NCAA Bryan Regional, which will take place from May 18 to May 20 at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. The announcement was made on May 6 by the NCAA on Golf Channel.

The regional event is significant as it provides an opportunity for individual players to advance to the NCAA Championship. To qualify, Sides or Steinmann must be the top individual finisher not already on an advancing team during the regional competition. The tournament will be streamed online at Babygrandegolf.com and will be available for purchase.

Sides is currently having a record-setting season with SMU Mustangs Men’s Golf. He is ranked No. 7 nationally by Scoreboard rankings powered by Clipp’d and has won three tournaments this season, just one short of tying the program record. His victories include wins at the Stephens Cup, Pauma Valley Invite, and Lewis Chitengwa Memorial. Sides also holds the SMU record for lowest scoring season average with a score of 69.56, surpassing previous records by .44 strokes per round. He set another school record with 26 rounds of par or better in a single season and achieved six top five finishes this year including at the ACC Championship.

Steinmann has had an impressive freshman year and is ranked No. 147 by Scoreboard rankings. He claimed his first tournament title at the Desimone Invitational after shooting a seven-under-par round of 65 in the middle round of play. With a current scoring average of 71.91, he holds the second-best freshman scoring mark in SMU history and added another top five finish at Lewis Chitengwa Memorial.

Both players enter this regional with strong performances behind them as they aim for advancement to further postseason play.
