Richardson Nursing and Rehabilitation was recognized as the largest nursing home in Dallas County during the first quarter of 2026, sharing the top spot with Five Points at Lake Highlands Nursing and Rehab, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The facility offered 280 beds, which was 148 more than the Dallas County average for the first quarter of 2026. During this period, an average of 82.1 residents stayed at the center.

CMS assigned Richardson Nursing and Rehabilitation an overall rating of 1 out of 5, falling below the 2.7 average rating for Texas nursing homes.

During the first quarter of 2026, the facility incurred $31,913 in fines across four violations and faced five penalties.

Dallas County, Texas, was home to 10 public nursing homes in total.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the population of older adults in the U.S. continues to grow as the number of younger individuals declines. From 2020 to 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older adult population has climbed significantly, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study found that nearly half of this demographic—about 28 million people—could need long-term services and supports. The study also predicted that more than a third may ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
