Rep. Marc Veasey, U.S. Representative from Texas, used his social media platform this week to address concerns about election integrity and healthcare coverage in Texas.
On July 30, 2025, Rep. Veasey posted a message criticizing former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers. He stated, “Trump and the Republican cowards want to rig the system because they know they can’t win when every voice counts and every vote matters.”
The following day, July 31, 2025, Rep. Veasey highlighted the anniversary of a significant milestone in U.S. social policy: “Today is the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Social Security Amendments of 1965, which established Medicare and Medicaid.” In the same post, he warned about pending changes to Medicaid in Texas: “Nearly 2 million people are going to lose healthcare coverage here in Texas because of the Big Ugly Bill gutting Medicaid. The majority are children.” He reiterated this concern minutes later in a similar post: “Today is the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Social Security Amendments of 1965, which established Medicare and Medicaid. Nearly 2 million people are going to lose healthcare coverage here in Texas because of the Big Ugly Bill gutting Medicaid. The majority are children.”
Marc Veasey has represented his district through multiple election cycles. In recent years, he won reelection against Patrick David Gillespie in both 2024 and 2022 with decisive margins—68.8% and 72% respectively—and previously defeated other challengers by similarly large percentages in elections dating back to 2014.
The Social Security Amendments of 1965 created Medicare and Medicaid, programs that provide health insurance for older Americans and low-income individuals respectively.
