Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, who represents Texas’ 30th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on July 17 and 18, 2025, addressing civil rights issues and recent legislative actions.
On July 17, Crockett commemorated the late civil rights leader John Lewis by stating, “John Lewis walked, bled, and lived for justice. Five years since his passing, we honor him the only way we know how: By refusing to stay silent and getting in more Good Trouble.”
Later that day, she criticized the Department of Justice’s response in the Breonna Taylor case. Crockett wrote on July 17: “One day. That’s the slap in the face the DOJ is calling ‘accountability’ in Breonna Taylor’s case. Now they want to act like civil rights charges were too much? Please be for real. If you’re wondering how little they value Black lives—look no further.”
On July 18, Crockett addressed recent legislative developments involving House Republicans: “Last night we got another midnight special from House Republicans. A rescissions package that slashes public broadcasting, even though millions rely on it for life-saving emergency alerts. They also voted to cut foreign assistance, which helps keep us safe. Crockett has represented Texas’s 30th District since 2023 after succeeding Eddie Bernice Johnson and previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2021 to 2023. Born in St Louis in 1981 and currently residing in Dallas, she holds degrees from Rhodes College and the University of Houston.
