Five Points at Lake Highlands Nursing and Rehab ranked as top nursing home by size in Dallas County in Q1

During the first quarter of 2026, Five Points at Lake Highlands Nursing and Rehab was the largest nursing home in Dallas County, tying with Richardson Nursing and Rehabilitation, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows. Both facilities shared the top spot in size for the area.

The nursing home offered 280 beds, which was 148 above the Dallas County average in the first quarter of 2026, and cared for an average of 173.4 residents during that time.

CMS assigned Five Points at Lake Highlands Nursing and Rehab an overall rating of 1 out of 5, falling short of the Texas nursing home average rating of 2.7.

By the first quarter of 2026, the facility had accumulated $72,182 across five fines and been subject to five total penalties.

Altogether, Dallas County, Texas, was home to 64 for-profit nursing care facilities.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the country’s older adult population is increasing while younger age groups decline. Between 2020 and 2024, the population of those age 65 and older grew by 13%, as the group under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the last 100 years, the older adult demographic has surged, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 report finds that around half of this age group, or about 28 million people, will likely need long-term services and supports, with projections indicating more than one-third could require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
