The United States Environmental Protection Agency will conduct low-altitude flights over Dallas using its ASPECT device as part of security preparations for the FIFA World Cup, according to a June 2 announcement from the City of Dallas.

The agency is scheduled to collect data on typical radiological values on June 3, June 28, and July 13, in support of activities related to FIFA World Cup matches and events taking place in Arlington and Dallas. The data will be gathered through the Aerial Spectral Photometric Environmental Collection Technology (ASPECT) device, which will fly at low altitude over locations including the Dallas Stadium, Fair Park/Cotton Bowl area, downtown Dallas, and surrounding areas.

The EPA said it is working closely with the North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee, the City of Arlington, the City of Dallas, the FBI’s Dallas Field Office, DFW TRACON air traffic control center, and the United States Department of Homeland Security to maintain public safety during these operations.

For more information about ASPECT technology and its emergency response applications, additional details are available from the Environmental Protection Agency.
